Boxing Day Beach Clean

14th December 2019

If you find yourself needing a breath of fresh air this Christmas, join us for the Boxing Day Beach Clean at Rousse!

We’ll be volunteering alongside La Societe Guernesiaise and Pick it Up Guernsey. We have already collected more than 500kg of litter from Guernsey’s coastlines to date.

The problem of micro plastics has not happened overnight: it is an accumulative effect. And it is easy to feel overwhelmed by the magnitude of the problem threatening our ecosystems; or that nothing you do will make a difference. But just as every individual action has contributed to this problem; each individual action can help protect our environment, one small step at a time.

So #Take3ForTheSea. If every single one of us in Guernsey stopped to pick up the empty plastic bottle, or the drinks can, we see in the street this month: that would be 65,000 fewer plastic bottles in the environment.

Will 65,000 of us do so? Perhaps not; but even if just some of us do, then in time more of us will; and picking up our litter to stop its dispersal into the environment will become the new norm – an automatic habit. We need to inspire change.

Even if you can’t join us on Boxing Day, the next time you are walking past some litter please stop and Take3ForTheSea.

We’ll be meeting at Rousse Headland on Boxing Day at 10.30am. Just bring yourself, and a Christmas jumper: we’ll bring the bags and gloves. We hope to see you there!
